The Lottery Office’s 8 lotteries of Christmas

With Christmas right around the corner, who isn’t dreaming of a win from one of the biggest lotteries in the world?

There are 8 government-licensed lotteries to choose from at The Lottery Office, each with its own special features, pros and cons. The one thing they all have in common is that they all give Australians and Kiwis the chance to win millions from the draws of overseas lotteries.

A win from any one of them would be welcome news this holiday season and we’d be thrilled to see one of our players see the year out with a huge bang.

All of our lotteries are matched to lotteries overseas. This means that when you enter any of our lottery draws we buy a matching ticket in the relevant overseas lottery overseas, being sure we use the same lotto numbers. After the overseas draw, if the ticket won any prizes, we collect them. Then, we pay you the same amount that we collected.

To see what our exclusive online-only matched lotteries have to offer, read on!

USA Power Lotto

With a jackpot that equalled the all-time world-record 1st prize in November 2022, the USA Power Lotto is a beast! At AUD$2.95 BILLION, it was a demonstration of how truly huge this lottery is. It also offered the second highest jackpot at AUD$2.68 billion, in October 2023.

For an extra charge, you can add the Multiplier feature. This has no effect on jackpot wins, but it makes wins from any other division up to 10 times larger than normal!

The multiply by 10 is only available when the jackpot is at USD$150 million, or less. When the jackpot is over this threshold, the maximum amount a non-jackpot win can be multiplied by is 5 times. The division 2 prize is always doubled when won with the Multiplier feature.

When our players buy a ticket in our USA Power Lotto, we buy an overseas matching ticket in the US Powerball.

USA Mega Lotto

After the USA Power Lotto, the USA Mega Lotto has offered the next largest ever jackpot at AUD$2.4 BILLION, in August 2023.

The USA Mega Lotto also has its own version of the Multiplier, multiplying non-jackpot prizes by up to 5 times. This can bring division 2 prizes us to AUD$7.5 million, which is truly huge for division 2.

When our players buy a ticket in our USA Mega Lotto, we buy an overseas matching ticket in the US Mega Millions.

Italian Super Jackpot

With an AUD$575 million all-time high in Feb 2023, this lottery doesn’t mess around.

It also gives players a free chance to win a prize separate to the main draw, with an “instant win” entry with every ticket.

When our players buy a ticket in our Italian Super Jackpot, we buy an overseas matching ticket in Italy’s SuperEnalotto.

Cost to play: $4.75

European Millions

The European Millions hit its highest jackpot to date in December 2023, at AUD$392 million.

It came a few draws after a “Superdraw”, which is a draw where the jackpot goes straight to a minimum of AUD$200 million, no matter how small the previous draw was.

When our players buy a ticket in our European Millions, we buy an overseas matching ticket in Europe’s EuroMillions.

Cost to play: $9.50

European Jackpot

The European Jackpot has a maximum jackpot of AUD$190 million. This is called the “jackpot cap”. The cap is fantastic, because when it’s in place and 1st prize isn’t won, any money that would usually go to increasing the jackpot in the next draw instead goes to the next division with a winner! This means that division 2 or maybe even 3 could win millions!

When our players buy a ticket in our European Jackpot, we buy an overseas matching ticket in Europe’s Eurojackpot.

Cost to play: $7.50

La Primitiva

Our most affordable lottery, the La Primitiva is a little quirky. As well as giving players the chance to win a prize for matching just 1 number (the “Reintegro”), it has a side game called “The Joker” which is a completely separate draw. Players can play to win huge prizes both with the regular draw and The Joker.

When our players buy a ticket in our La Primitiva, we buy an overseas matching ticket in Spain’s La Primitiva.

Cost to play: $3.70

Irish Lotto

The Irish Lotto also has a jackpot cap ($AUD30 million), and when its in place and the jackpot isn’t won, money that would usually go to increasing the jackpot in the following draw instead goes to the next division with a winner. The cap can only remain in place for a maximum of 5 draws, after which if the jackpot still isn’t won, the entire jackpot prize goes to the next division with a winner! Imagine winning AUD$30 million with only a division 2 or 3 win!

When our players buy a ticket in our Irish Lotto, we buy an overseas matching ticket in the Irish National Lottery’s Lotto.

Cost to play: $8.45

UK Lotto

There can only be 5 jackpot rollovers in the UK Lotto! When this happens, the next draw is a “Must Be Won’ draw, meaning if the jackpot isn’t won, the 1st prize goes to the next division that has at least 1 winner, which will usually be division 2 or 3.

Must Be Won draws are also announced unexpectedly for no discernible reason, so be sure to check back regularly to see when there’s one in play!

You also get a free ticket in the next draw for matching just 2 numbers in the UK Lotto.

When our players buy a ticket in our UK Lotto, we buy an overseas matching ticket in the UK National Lottery’s Lotto.

Cost to play: $9.65

What about taxes?

All of our lotteries are free from Australian and New Zealand taxes. The following lotteries are matched to overseas lotteries that may be subject to tax:

USA Power Lotto, USA Mega Lotto, Italian Super Jackpot and La Primitiva.

The following lotteries are matched to overseas lotteries that ARE NOT tax overseas:

European Millions, European Jackpot, Irish Lotto and UK Lotto.

If you win, you will be paid the same amount collected overseas. For overseas lotteries subject to tax, tax will be withheld before we collect the winnings and that is the amount you would receive.
