The Lottery Office and Gold Coast Titans unite for mental health
Charity plays a pivotal role for The Lottery Office, as it brings together individuals and organisations to support causes that improve lives and communities.
On the Gold Coast, a significant NRL game demonstrated this when powerhouses The Lottery Office and the Gold Coast Titans partnered with Top Blokes Foundation and Logan’s Legacy to spotlight mental health issues. It showcased how collaborative efforts can make a profound impact on charity initiatives and mental health awareness.
The Role of The Lottery Office
As the Principal Partner of the Gold Coast Titans, The Lottery Office played a crucial role in Logans Legacy initiative. A substantial donation of $20,000 was the largest contribution, kicking off the donations for the day towards the Top Blokes Foundation program. This generous donation will enable young boys and men to participate in Top Blokes’ evidence-based six-month program, which aims to foster resilience, empathy, and well-being. Understanding Top Blokes and Logan’s Legacy
Top Blokes is an Australian charity dedicated to empowering young males to become confident and responsible individuals. The partnership with Logan’s Legacy adds a personal and poignant dimension to their mission.
Logan’s Legacy is named in honour of Logan Steinwede, the stepson of Titans captain Kieran Foran, who tragically lost his life to suicide last year. Logan’s death highlighted the alarming statistic that young males are disproportionately represented in suicide rates, with boys and men accounting for 75% of the 3,000 suicides each year in Australia.
This reality underscores the urgent need for programs like Top Blokes that provide young males with the tools to navigate life’s challenges.
A Day of Special Significance
The event was particularly meaningful for Kieran Foran and his family. As a Top Blokes Ambassador, Foran’s connection to the cause is deeply personal. The day’s activities included various key events to honour Logan’s memory and raise awareness about mental health. These included:
- A Top Bloke precinct display with handouts and information about the program.
- Mick Fanning and Karina Foran, Logan’s mother, delivering the match ball in Logan’s honour (pictured below).
- Top Blokes signage across the stadium to increase visibility and awareness.
- A special cheque presentation post-game to highlight the fundraising achievement
The Financial Impact
The fundraising efforts from the day were a resounding success, with a total of $46,344 raised to support Top Blokes. This amount will go a long way in funding the charity’s programs. Put into perspective, $1,000 will put one young male through the six-month Top Blokes program, providing them with the opportunity to develop crucial life skills.
